A Ranger for the Twins
Tanya Agler
4/5 Stars
I really enjoy these Harlequin Heartwarming stories because they truly are heartwarming. They make for clean, sweet, and quick reads, which are all positives in my book. A Ranger to the Twins was the second book in this series, but I hadn't read the first one and did not feel lost at all. Having read the blurb from the first book, I could see how it would give you background on some of the supporting characters, but it didn't feel necessary to read them in order.
Lucie faces an uphill battle. Her ex-husband cheated and swindled money out of many of the citizens of her hometown. He's behind bars now, but she's trying to live with the mess he made without leaving her hometown and trying to prove she had nothing to do with his scheme. She's also trying to get a new business up and running to support herself and her twins. In walks Caleb, a really good friend of hers from high school who has just moved back. He's turned into the town's hero after saving some kids as a park ranger. He's falling for her but has to reconcile the fact that her ex also cheated his parents out of a large sum of money. They have history but he feels like pursuing her betrays his parents. She has burned before and doesn't want to go there again.
Caleb showed such endearing determination in pursuing Lucie and trying to show her that not everyone had turned their backs on her. He was simply there for her and her kids. Of course, there was an underlying and pretty sneaky reason why at first, but he quickly realizes just how much he is attracted to her and wants to be part of the chaos that is her home, complete with twins and a menagerie of adopted animals.
My only thing that I would say as constructive criticism is I wasn't completely blown away by the chemistry between Lucie and Caleb. They were definitely sweet together and I still think the book was well written, but I wasn't totally blown away and fan girl squeaking over their chemistry. Admittedly, I had read books recently where the chemistry was off the charts so I'm sure that influenced this feeling.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and review.
